1.General Product Description
The overlay pipe is a superior abrasion resistant piping solution for extreme applications.
The overlay pipe product was designed to combat severe abrasive wear with moderate to low impact over a wide temperature range.
The overlay pipe is manufactured by depositing chromium-rich, abrasion-resistant materials on a mild steel base using a traditional arc welding process.
The overlay pipe is available with single or multiple overlay-passes.
The overlay pipe can be fabricated as square-to-round transitions, elbows, T or Y-shaped, straights, mitered bends, reducers.
The overlay piping products have all the advantages without the disadvantages of double walls or cast lined pipes.
2.Key Benefits
•Same wear resistance guaranteed from surface down to 75% of the overlay
•Optimal carbide composition to provide good combination of wear
•Reduces life cycle maintenance cost and unplanned outages
•Outlasts mild steel pipe by up to 10 times
•Variety of pipe sizes for most applications
•Easily installed & field patched
3.Typical Applications
The overlay pipe is a fabricated pipe produced with our industry proven, high quality chrome carbide overlay. It offers outstanding abrasion resistance for most low pressure applications. The overlay pipe has reduced downtime in various industries including steel, cement, paper, mining, power generation, aggregate, and glass industries. The overlay pipe is the preferred choice in the transportation of materials such as: aggregates, ash, coal, gravel, limestone, magnetite, mill scale, mine tailings, ores, pyrites, raw kiln feed, slurries, sludge, slag, and sand.
Some specific applications include:

5.Mechanical Properties
·Surface Hardnes
| Number of overlay passes | Typical surface hardness |
| Double or multiple | 59 to 62 HRC (675 to 750 HV) |
NOTE:Surface hardness is measured on machined flat surface just below overlay surface
·Wear Properties
| Number of overlay passes | ASTM G65 – Procedure A weight loss | |
| Surface | 75% depth | |
| Double or multiple | 0.16g maximum | 0.16g maximum |
NOTE:1.ASTM G65 is a standard test measuring sliding abrasion resistance using a dry sand/rubber wheel apparatus. ASTM G65-Procedure A is the most severe test method.
2.ASTM G65 wear test is conducted at 75% depth of the overlay materials to ensure consistently good wear resistance from the top surface through 75% of the depth of the overlay.
